The Last Day at School

 School Induction Day- 5

With Headmistress Ms. Usha Kumari

The last day at school was rather disappointing and sad, since it acted as a relief from heavy workloads of college. Tomorrow onwards, I will miss the sounds and laughter of the children, the playground filled with the children's play, the birds chirping on the trees for the lunch wasted by the children etc.

The Day of Silence

 School Induction Day - 4

The fourth day at the school was an Educational Strike day throughout the Kollam district. The school was in a silent mode without the noise and laughter from the children. The day was rather boring without any work to be done, giving us some rest from the previous busy days.

Discovering New Techniques to Teach...

                                School Induction Day - 3

The third day at school comprised of observing Vandana Teacher's classes at VIII and IX standards. Teacher's way of teaching, how she imparted those knowledge into them, how she made the students reach the points she wanted to teach, how she made them listen to her without any carelessness, how she made the portions easier for the students where we had found  difficulty in teaching them was rather amusing and surprising.

First Lesson for the Students

 School Induction Day - 2

It was our second day at DVVHSS, Mylom. It was my first time to be called as a "Teacher"  by  school students and staffs apart from the "Misse"  from the college students. The day was rather interesting to have spend time with the VI A students for the substitution period. We were able to engage them in extra-curricular activities for the whole period. The child crying because she hasn't seen the rainbow yet in her life, children imitating to write my style of writing, children possessing different talents, were new to me.

The second half of the second day fully comprised of our shared classes to the VIII standard and IX standard students. The Maths teacher told us to take the class on the same day itself without having any preparation before hand. But we managed it well beyond our expectations.

Understanding the School Premises

 School Induction Day - 1

As a part of the B.Ed. Curriculum, a five day induction program was arranged in prior to the teaching practice in the coming semesters at DVVHSS, Mylom. It was meant to understand the school situations as a teacher, rather than a student. Even though I have taught in a college, it was my first experience as a teacher. Since it was our first day, we weren't given duties or classes assigned, so all of us decided to wander around the school to complete the work that have been given to us rather than wasting our time. We don't know what waits for us on the second day.

Micro - teaching workshop

 Workshop on Micro - teaching

Micro-teaching is a teacher training technique that involves practicing teaching skills in a controlled, small-group setting. Typically, a teacher or trainee delivers a short lesson (often around 5 to 10 minutes) to a small group of peers or fellow educators. This method allows for focused practice on specific teaching techniques, lesson planning, and classroom management.

Steps in Micro - teaching

After the lesson, participants receive constructive feedback from their peers and an instructor, which helps identify strengths and areas for improvement. The process often includes video recordings for self-reflection. Micro-teaching is particularly effective in developing confidence, enhancing instructional strategies, and fostering collaboration among educators. It’s a practical way to refine skills before applying them in a real classroom environment.

Participating in a micro-teaching workshop was an enriching experience that allowed me to refine my teaching skills in a supportive environment. The format involved delivering short lessons to a small group of peers, followed by constructive feedback and discussions. This setting fostered collaboration and provided diverse perspectives on instructional strategies. I gained valuable insights into effective lesson planning, engagement techniques, and the importance of adaptability in teaching.

Micro - teaching workshop

The opportunity to observe my peers' styles also inspired me to incorporate new methods into my own practice, ultimately enhancing my confidence and effectiveness as a teacher trainee.
