Learning Through Observation: A Step Towards Effective Teaching

CRITICISM PHASE - I ( DAY -2)

On the second day of the Criticism Class at BMM College, I first participated as a student in Jishnu and Kalyani’s Malayalam classes, followed by Anusree and Ajmi’s Social Science sessions. These classes provided a deeper understanding of different teaching styles and strategies used to engage students in language and social studies. By experiencing the lessons from a student’s perspective, I could observe how instructional techniques and content delivery influenced learning outcomes.

Later, I took on the role of an observer for Jesna’s Mathematics class, carefully analyzing the lesson structure, clarity of explanations, and interaction with students. This observation helped me understand the strengths and areas for improvement in teaching mathematical concepts effectively. As a peer, I was also assigned to critique Joel’s Mathematics class. Evaluating his session required me to provide constructive feedback, focusing on lesson clarity, student engagement, and teaching methods. This process encouraged self-reflection and a better grasp of what makes a lesson impactful.

The day’s experience reinforced the importance of preparation, clarity, and adaptability in teaching. Engaging in both student and observer roles helped me refine my understanding of classroom dynamics and instructional techniques. Providing peer criticism also allowed me to develop an analytical approach to teaching, which would be beneficial for my upcoming practice sessions. Overall, the day was an insightful exercise in both learning and professional growth.

Sharpening Teaching Skills: A Journey Through Criticism and Reflection

CRITICISM PHASE - I ( DAY -I)

As a Student

The Criticism Class at BMM College served as a preparatory session for second-year teaching practice, offering an opportunity to refine teaching skills through peer observation and feedback. On the first day, I participated as a student in a Social Science class led by Fr. Terry on the topic 'Water is Essential for Life' followed by Rajalekshmi’s session on 'Natural Phenomena'. This experience provided insight into student engagement and classroom dynamics, helping us understand different teaching methodologies before stepping into the role of a teacher.

Following this, I was assigned to evaluate Abhijith’s class on 'Negative Numbers', Albin’s session on the 'Prism', and Aparna’s lesson on the 'Construction of Quadrilaterals'. Engaging in peer criticism allowed me to analyze their teaching techniques, content delivery, and classroom management. Providing constructive feedback helped us all refine our approaches, ensuring we addressed areas for improvement. Observing their lessons also gave me valuable insights into structuring my own class effectively.

As a Peer

Finally, I was allotted the last 40 minutes of the working hour to deliver my lesson. Though I had not studied my PowerPoint presentation thoroughly, the rest of my preparation was satisfactory. I managed to complete my lesson plan within the given time, incorporating a follow-up activity to reinforce learning. After my session, I received feedback highlighting areas for improvement, which helped me recognize aspects that needed more attention. Overall, the Criticism Class was a valuable learning experience that prepared me for the upcoming teaching practice.

Sports Day, Unleash your Strength, Speed and Spirit!

Sports day

Sports Day at BMM College was an electrifying and unforgettable experience! Even though I wasn’t very proficient in sports, I eagerly participated in the 200m race and shot put, pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. Apart from competing, I also got the chance to handle the scoreboard and assist in conducting some events, which gave me a sense of responsibility and excitement. The atmosphere was charged with energy, with students cheering for their respective houses—Blue, Red, and Green—as they put in their best efforts to win. Finally the winners were 'BLUE' group. The vibrant parade of the three houses marked a grand start to the day, filling the field with enthusiasm and team spirit.

The event lineup was packed with thrilling competitions like standing long jump, discus throw, javelin, and the much-anticipated 400m relay, both mixed and separate. Each event brought moments of intense competition and celebration, making the day even more special. Despite the scorching sun, the excitement never faded, and refreshments were provided to keep everyone energized. The entire day was filled with fun, teamwork, and unforgettable memories. Looking back, I feel proud to have been part of such an exhilarating celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie!

"Unlock Your Creativity: Workshop on Digital Profiles, Albums & Video Making!"

Workshop on digital profile, digital album, and video making

Attending the Digital Profile and Digital Album workshop led by Mr. Harilal K. S. was an incredibly insightful experience as a teacher trainee. The session on digital profiles emphasized the importance of creating a well-organized and visually appealing professional identity. I learned how to structure my profile to highlight my skills, achievements, and teaching philosophy effectively. This skill is particularly valuable in today’s digital era, where maintaining an online presence is essential for professional growth. The hands-on training helped me develop a polished and compelling digital profile that can be used for job applications, networking, and career advancement.

The digital album segment was equally fascinating, as it introduced innovative ways to document and present teaching experiences. I explored various tools to create interactive and visually appealing albums, which can be used to showcase classroom activities, student projects, and educational events. This skill will be particularly useful in maintaining a reflective teaching portfolio and engaging students through multimedia content. The workshop not only enhanced my technical proficiency but also inspired me to integrate digital storytelling into my teaching approach. It was a truly enriching experience that equipped me with essential skills for modern-day education.
