From calm classrooms to creative projects and a powerful finale—ended the journey on a high!

 TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE - I

Weekly Reflection - 9

Day - 38 (29 september 2025)

After signing in at 9:30 a.m., the day began beautifully with a confident and efficient morning assembly led by Class 10B. My main focus was the third period in Class 8B.

The school atmosphere was notably calm, which we utilized during the noon hour to assist smoothly with the midday meal distribution. Adding to the relaxed vibe, the high school sections were busy with orientation sessions for Classes 8, 9, and 10, guiding them on the various higher secondary courses available—a crucial step for their future. The day remained remarkably productive and peaceful, allowing us to manage our responsibilities efficiently. We wrapped things up by helping with the dispersal duties, signed the register by 4:15 p.m., and headed off, enjoying a pleasant conclusion before the pooja break officially began.

Day - 39 (03 OCTOBER 2025)

Today marked our energetic return after the Pooja holidays, and while the student strength was expectedly low, the day was anything but quiet!

After signing in, I headed straight to my duties. Though the classroom was a little less full than usual, the students who did attend were incredibly engaged. The afternoon brought a fun blend of activities. First, we smoothly managed the midday meal distribution, ensuring everyone was served efficiently. Then, we switched gears entirely for a special project: we were tasked with creating a video reel for the upcoming Little Kites state-level competition! We spent a great block of time recording students performing various ICT-based activities, which was a blast.

Finally, we rounded out the afternoon by conducting a focused skit practice with Class 8 students for their important upcoming performance on Child Labour. We wrapped up the day with our regular dispersal duties and signed out, leaving the school at 4:15 p.m. Despite the lower crowd, the mix of classroom challenge and creative projects made the day incredibly engaging and productive!

Day - 40 (04 OCTOBER 2025)

Saturday, August 4th, 2025, marked our final day of regular teaching sessions, and it was packed with meaningful activities! Arriving at 9:00 a.m., I taught my last class for Class 8B, concluding the chapter on Algebraic Solutions of Equations with an ICT-based lesson. This session was observed by my mentor, Sajeev Sir, who offered encouraging feedback on my effective use of PowerPoint and provided valuable, constructive suggestions for enhancing my teaching strategies—a truly insightful learning moment!

Despite the low attendance typical of a working Saturday, the afternoon remained busy; after assisting with noon meal duties, we conducted a vital conscientization programme focused on first aid awareness, specifically addressing how to handle shock, fractures, and minor injuries through practical demonstrations and discussions. Wrapping up with dispersal duties and signing out around 4:00 p.m., the day felt incredibly fulfilling, successfully completing both the teaching component and a significant awareness initiative.

Conscientization Program

Act Fast, Act Right: A Conscientization Program on First-Aid Education

Introduction

A conscientization program is an educational initiative designed to create awareness, develop critical understanding, and inspire responsible action among learners on socially relevant themes. In the context of school education, such programs play a significant role in empowering students with essential life skills that extend beyond academics. First aid, being a crucial life-saving skill, is one such area where awareness and practical competency need to be fostered among school children, as they are often the first witnesses to accidents or health emergencies within the school environment.

During the awareness test conducted among high school students, it was found that the overall level of first-aid awareness was only moderate, indicating that while students possessed basic information, they lacked clarity on correct procedures, immediate responses, and practical application of first-aid measures. This gap in knowledge reflects the urgent need for systematic sensitization and hands-on learning experiences. Without proper guidance, students may respond incorrectly during emergencies, which may worsen the situation instead of offering appropriate help. Therefore, a structured conscientization program becomes necessary to enhance their understanding and practical readiness.

Taking into consideration the findings of the awareness test, a conscientization program titled “Act Fast, Act Right : A Conscientization Program on First - Aid” was planned and executed. The program aimed to reinforce correct first-aid practices, equip students with essential emergency response skills, and promote confidence in handling common injuries such as sprains, fractures, shock, and other school-based incidents. Through interactive presentations, demonstrations, and collaborative learning, the program sought to empower students to become responsible first responders, thereby promoting a safer school environment and fostering life-saving competencies among young learners.

Need and Significance

The need for organizing a conscientization program on first aid emerged from the findings of the awareness test, which revealed that the majority of students possessed only a moderate level of understanding of basic first-aid practices. Although students were aware of certain first-aid concepts, many lacked clarity on the correct procedures to be followed during emergencies such as burns, fractures, shock, fainting, or minor injuries. This highlights a clear gap between theoretical awareness and practical readiness, necessitating a focused intervention to strengthen students’ knowledge and equip them with appropriate skills to respond confidently in real-life situations.

The significance of the program lies in its potential to empower students with life-saving skills that are essential for their personal safety and for helping others in times of need. Schools are places where students are actively involved in physical play, experiments, and various activities, making them more vulnerable to accidents. By enhancing first-aid skills, students are not only prepared to take immediate action during emergencies but also develop a sense of responsibility, awareness, and concern for their peers. This contributes to cultivating a safer school environment where students can act as first responders until professional medical assistance arrives.

Furthermore, the program holds educational and social importance, as it promotes health literacy and encourages practical, value-based learning beyond textbooks. Developing competency in first aid at a young age helps students become more confident, proactive, and socially responsible individuals. The conscientization effort also benefits the larger community, as students can extend their knowledge to their families and neighbourhoods, fostering a culture of safety and preparedness. Thus, the program is significant in bridging learning gaps, strengthening life skills, and empowering learners to transform awareness into meaningful action.

Objectives of the Program

  • To enhance students’ understanding of basic first-aid principles and emergency response procedures.
  • To develop practical skills among students for managing common injuries such as  shock, sprains, fractures, etc.
  • To bridge the gap between theoretical awareness and real-life application of first-aid measures.
  • To build confidence and readiness among students to act as responsible first responders during school or home emergencies.
  • To promote a sense of safety, responsibility, and care among students towards their peers and community.
  • To encourage collaborative learning through demonstrations, presentations, and interactive activities related to first aid.
  • To instill health awareness and foster a culture of preparedness and preventive care among school students.
Reflection of the Program

The conscientization program on First Aid, conducted at 2:00 p.m. for Class VIII students, proved to be a highly impactful and informative session. The sequence of events was well-organized, beginning with a silent prayer and followed by a warm welcome by David, which set a positive and respectful tone for the program. The inaugural address by Mrs. Smitha S., Biology Teacher, emphasized the importance of first-aid knowledge and appreciated the initiative taken to educate students on such a relevant life skill. The program successfully achieved its objective of enhancing student awareness by providing clear demonstrations, practical insights, and interactive learning experiences that helped students understand not just what first aid is, but how to perform it correctly during emergencies.

The presentation segment was the core of the program and was highly engaging for the students. Each topic was handled thoughtfully and demonstrated with clarity. David introduced the topic of shock and demonstrated CPR, capturing the attention of students through a live demonstration. Shamna explained sprains, types of sprains, and the immediate first-aid response, followed by a mock demonstration that made the learning process active and memorable. I handled the session on fractures, explaining the causes, symptoms, and step-by-step procedure to manage fractures using sticks and cloth for support, which was demonstrated practically. The R.I.C.E. method was jointly explained with Shamna to reinforce first-aid for sprains and fractures. The felicitation address by Manju Teacher further boosted the morale of the presenters, and the program concluded positively with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Shamna at 2:55 p.m.

The program received positive feedback from both teachers and students. It helped improve students’ confidence in responding to injuries and taught them essential first-aid techniques through practical demonstration rather than theory alone. It also strengthened teamwork, planning, time management, and presentation skills among the organizers. The entire experience proved valuable, reinforcing the need for such awareness programs in schools to build a generation that is informed, alert, and capable of providing timely support during emergencies.

My Role in the Program

As an active member of the organizing team, I played a significant role in planning and executing the conscientization program smoothly. I was responsible for preparing the program schedule and the poster for the event, ensuring that the sequence of events was well-structured and visually appealing. During the presentation segment, I handled the topic of fractures, where I explained the meaning, causes, symptoms, and first-aid steps for managing fractures. I also demonstrated the procedure of immobilizing a fractured limb using a stick and cloth as a splint. Additionally, I jointly presented the R.I.C.E. method, connecting it to both sprains and fractures for student clarity.

I also contributed to the development of the PowerPoint Presentation, creating the slides for my assigned part and coordinating with my peers for overall alignment of content and design. The PPT was successfully completed with equal effort from all members. Through this program, I enhanced my communication, leadership, and coordination skills, while gaining confidence in handling live demonstrations before students. Overall, my role allowed me to effectively integrate planning, teamwork, presentation skills, and practical teaching into a meaningful educational experience.

Conclusion

The Conscientization Program on First Aid Awareness was a purposeful and impactful initiative that successfully enhanced the students’ understanding of basic first aid measures. Through demonstrations, interactive presentations, and practical examples, the session enabled learners to gain confidence in responding to common injuries and emergencies in a calm and informed manner. The involvement of teachers and the active participation of students greatly contributed to the overall effectiveness of the program.

Overall, the program achieved its intended objectives by fostering awareness, responsibility, and essential life skills among the students. It reinforced the importance of equipping young learners with practical knowledge that can benefit them in real-life situations. This initiative also highlighted the value of collaborative planning and execution, and it stands as a model for conducting similar awareness-based programs in the future.

From observation marathons to classroom chaos—managed it all with a teacher’s smile!

 TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE - I

Weekly Reflection - 8

Day - 33 (22 september 2025)

The day was the perfect blend of high-stakes performance and routine duty! The morning was a non-stop observation marathon: I was watching my peers, Shamna and David, teach Natural Science under Dr. Praveena , and then had the pressure turned on as Ms. Sreelekshmi observed my own fourth-period class. The lesson was good, but the students were extra lively, reminding me that the best-planned class still needs sharp-edged classroom management.

We didn't miss a beat! Right after the observations, it was straight into noon meal duty, followed by a dedicated trial practice session to nail down the plan for the upcoming P.E. observation. The day also featured a wonderful touch of student leadership with a lively morning assembly led by the Little Kites.

In the end, it was a totally an 'okay day'—which, under that kind of pressure, is a huge win! It was a valuable lesson in keeping my cool while juggling every hat a teacher wears.

Day - 34 (23 september 2025)

Tuesday was anything but routine at school! After signing in at 9:20 a.m., David and I immediately transitioned into invigilation duty for the exciting Sub-District Walking Competition selections held right on campus. Parallelly, we ensured our Class 8A Physical Education observation went smoothly, watching the students perform their drills with impressive discipline, earning praise from the Lal sir for their coordination. The buzz continued through noon as we helped distribute a special biryani meal and simultaneously assisted with the ongoing Kalolsavam writing competitions. Juggling sports, academics, and meal duties made for a demanding but incredibly rewarding day.

Day - 35 (24 september 2025)

The day was defined by the energetic buzz of sub-district selection competitions being held on campus, turning a routine Wednesday into a dynamic learning experience. Reaching school at 9:15 a.m., I was immediately assigned to invigilate the drawing competition and assist teachers in coordinating the artistic event, a fascinating break from the norm. Throughout the morning, I also provided crucial substitution support in classes whose regular teachers were busy with the main event, perfectly illustrating the real-world need to juggle co-curricular management with essential academic duties. Even amidst the competitive hustle, I maintained my classroom preparations and record maintenance, before helping with the midday meal distribution at noon and concluding the productive day with dispersal duties, signing out at 4:15 p.m. with a strong sense of accomplishment in having balanced multiple high-priority responsibilities.

Day - 36 (25 september 2025)

Blending Technology, Responsibility, and Creativity in School Life

 TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE - I

Weekly Reflection - 7

Day - 30 (15 september 2025)

What a way to kick off the week! After the usual Monday assembly, the school hosted an exciting Little Kites One-Day Preliminary Camp from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The program was a huge success, officially inaugurated by our Headmaster, Sri. Sunil Kumar S, with Sri. Ansar M, Master Trainer from KITE Kollam, serving as the excellent resource person. The entire event was highly informative and inspiring, focusing on boosting the students' digital skills and creativity. Even with the camp running all day, we still managed our regular duties, including my class, noon meal duty, and dispersal. It was a busy, but incredibly rewarding, start to the week!

Day - 31 (16 september 2025)

Today shifted from the usual routine to a highly creative and collaborative challenge. Alongside our regular duties, we dove into a major project for the EDU 12 paper: scriptwriting. The theme we chose is the crucial issue of the Prohibition of Child Labour.

This task is giving us a powerful opportunity to blend educational objectives with drama. We're not just writing a script; we're crafting an engaging drama designed to raise significant awareness among the students. It's rewarding to think that our work could become a vibrant tool for social change right here in the school!

Day - 32 (17 september 2025)

The "Change of Destiny" drama is officially in production! Today, we moved into the next, and most exciting, phase: casting and first practice. Roles were assigned, and the script was handed over to our talented student actors.

The energy in the room during our first rehearsal was fantastic. We spent the time guiding them through their characters and dialogues, and their enthusiasm was incredibly encouraging. It’s rewarding to see the students not only embrace their acting roles but also begin to reflect deeply on the seriousness of child labour through their performance. We’ve hit the ground running!

A Week of Duties, Discoveries, and Dedication

  TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE - I

Weekly Reflection - 6

Day - 25 (08 september 2025)

This day marked the reopening after the Onam holidays. The day began with the regular signing of the register, followed by the morning assembly coordinated by the students of Class 5A. I had my usual third period along with a substitution period during the noon. The school atmosphere was quieter as the student strength was low after the break, and we also bid farewell to the temporary Arabic teacher as a permanent teacher was appointed.

Routine duties, including meal distribution and dispersal, were carried out smoothly, and the day ended on a pleasant note with the serving of tasty payasam in the evening.

Day - 26 (09 september 2025)

Another day, another lesson! Despite battling a fever, I started the day with the usual register duties. My third-period class was particularly challenging, but I pushed through. In a moment of unexpected teamwork, I even helped with a fun, albeit random, task: peeling eggs!

The day took on a more formal note as we attended a meeting to say farewell to our work experience Shabu Sir who officially left for his new post in Wayanad. After the meeting, it was back to the routine of taking classes and supervising dispersal duties. It was a hectic day, but one filled with both challenges and memorable moments.

Day - 27 (10 september 2025)

The 27 th day of my teaching practice unfolded in a familiar rhythm. It began with the standard duties after signing in, followed by a productive third period with my class. As the day progressed, I found myself assisting in various tasks, which is what makes each day unique.

The final period was a nice change of pace. David, Shamna and I helped with a yoga practice for Class 8A, focusing on getting them to line up and respond to commands. It was a good exercise in non-verbal communication and classroom management. The students were a good mix of focused and playful. As the final bell rang, we finished the day by assisting with dispersal duties, another staple of this teaching journey. Every day brings a new lesson, and today's was about adapting to different tasks, big and small.

Day - 28 (11 september 2025)

Day by day, the teaching practice gets more interesting! The day began with a buzz of excitement as the school hosted a chess competition for junior and sub-junior boys and girls. I was on duty from the morning, helping out with the event.

Even with the special duties, my third-period class with 8B went on

as usual. It's a fun challenge to balance my regular teaching with other school activities. After my class, I went straight back to assisting with the chess tournament. The real test of my multitasking came during the lunch break when I had an unexpected invigilation duty for a science quiz. It was interesting to see the students' competitive spirit extend from the chessboard to the quiz sheet! The rest of the day was a mix of routine duties and then assisting with dispersal duties in the evening. It was a busy day, but one filled with a great deal of variety.

Day - 29 (12 september 2025)

This day of teaching practice was a good one! It started with an unexpected visit to the science lab, which was perfectly arranged and a sight to see. My usual third-period class went well, and I assisted with my normal duties. The afternoon was dedicated to a P.T.A meeting, where teachers and parents discussed student performance and planned for the next quarter. The day ended with the usual dispersal duties.
